Well Done 2

Well Done 2 is a pretty awesome mix tape. Tyga really kills every single song on here. I think the best track is “I’m Done” because it exemplifies the fact that Tyga can rap fast and slow, and it shows that he can switch up his style consistently.  It is Tyga’s original lyrics over Chris browns song, “Look At Me Now”.
Another good song on this mix is the Yonkers remix.  He really shows that he can adapt to different instrumentals on that track. His vocabulary is also very differentiated on this tape, much more than his others. So instead of just talking about fornication, and material wealth; you can hear the differences between this, and most tapes out there right now. Tyga, a member of the super group, YMCMB, is a young guy with a lot of swagger, If you listen to his music you can immediately sense the urgency he uses to tell every one he is the hottest rapper out right now. Whether it is true or not, its apparent that this artist is on the rise and if you follow hip hop and rap music, you should definitely keep an eye on this guy. I would definitely recommend this tape to a friend, it’s sweet.

Take Care Review

Take care is an alright album. Drake does his thing on a couple songs, but for the most part it is just sappy love songs. “Headlines” is a really awesome song. It really exemplifies Aubrey’s talent at rapping fast and also keeping the melodical aspect  of his style in play. The song “Underground Kings” pays homage to his mentor and role model, Bun-b. This song really shows that drake can be diverse with his vocabulary. The album features collaborations with the hottest rappers in the game right now. The track “The Motto”, Featuring lil Wayne, Is one of the hottest singles out right now. You can really tell that he wanted “take care” to be one of his most definitive albums, because of the level of emotion in every one of his songs. “Marvin’s Room” Another one of the hottest singles in the past year, really lets you take a look into the life of Drake, and how he feels about women. All in all “take care” is one of the most popular albums in the past decade, but I feel like there are a multitude of other more underground artists that were more deserving of this succsess. I would give this album a 3/5.

When Life Gives You Lemons review

First of all, before I say anything else, I want it to be known that Atmosphere, or rather Slug from atmosphere, is one of the best storytelling rappers of all time. He is the face of Rhymesayers record company, and a veteran in the Indie hip hop game. “when life gives you lemons” is his most definitive album in my opinion. Every joint is another story that and you can tell he speaks from his heart. The emotion he puts in every song is phenomenal and unmatched by anyone else. Enough about slug though, his DJ ,Ant,  really puts it down too. With old school scratches and gritty beats, you can really tell Atmosphere is home grown in the Midwest.
The best track in this album, in my humble opinion, is “In her music Box”. In this song he really describes how hard it is trying to be an emcee, while also being a single father and raising his daughter. The first time I heard it, I legit cried. Granted I was nine years old, but still, with the emotion and detail he throws in every song, it is easy to be overwhelmed by him.
I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys real hip hop, or music in general really

Goblin Review

This is definitely the most important album of 2011, hands down.  Tyler the Creator and his band of misfits, OFWGKTA, are changing the game in huge ways. At the same time they are biting the marketing style of one of the nineties most infamous hip hop collaboratives, The Wu Tang Clan. Similarities that can be drawn between the two when comparing them, are very obvious, the sheer size of the group is just like the Wu’s. The size is too generate as much success as possible by releasing a collaborative, then as many spin off records to put all the artists in the limelight. You can also compare the two by their mutual love of vulgarity and vernacular.
The album “Goblin” is sick! From the hard hitting single “Yonkers” to the lesser known song “Transylvania”, Tyler shows he is no stranger to controversy, as he carelessly throws vulgarity around like he doesn’t care, but while still leaving the listener with something to think about. This is the album that put odd future out there, and I predict that, in a few years, it will be regarded as a classic. I would for sure recommend this album to one of my friends or anyone else for that matter.

Rolling Papers review

What can I say about Wiz Khalifa? Of course there is the normal pros and cons, but in this album there are definitely more negative things to say than good things. I Really cannot stress enough how tired I am of hearing songs that are exclusively about smoking weed and having sexual relationships with random women. The melodies, combined with lyrics that are detrimental to the human race in general, Really do not combine well. This man is no role model and should not be treated as one, he is not even good at wordplay or metaphors, which to me is the most important part of hip hop music.
All that being said, one very good thing about Wiz that he always keeps consistent, is the instrumentals he speaks to on his songs. The bass knocks, and the rhythms  keep the listener in tune to what he is rapping about. Even if I don’t agree with his lyrics, I know the kid has talent.  That talent can be  seen in his earlier mixtapes, Especially “Flight School” which I highly recommend to anybody who enjoys just kicking back, smoking, and listening to some dope music with your friends.

The Carter IV review

The Carter 4 is another banger from Wayne. Every song pounds with bass and the lyrics are always sick. Lil wayne has been in the rap game for over a decade, and even though he lost a lot of respect for the “rock” album Rebirth, he came back twice as hard with the mixtape “Sorry 4 the wait” and his follow up to his most successful album ever, “The Carter 3”. He definitely did his thing on this one,  from hard rap collaborations with hip hop superstars like Nas and Andre 3000, to  crooning the love song ,  “How to love”, Wayne definitely demonstrates how diverse he can be on this album.
The subject matter in the album differs from his struggles of getting up on the rap game, to basicly bragging about being the reigning king of rap. I wouldn’t disagree with that statement per say, but I feel like if there was one bad thing I could say about this album, it would be that Lil Wayne comes off a little too cocky. But the cockiness is always present in Wayne’s work, and seperates him from a lot of the others rappers that are hot right now.

Fast cars, Danger, Fire and knives review

This is one of the sicker  underground hip-hop albums that’s come out in the past decade. Aesop Rock is a definitive power player in the world of lyrical rap. In this album every line basicly tells a different story, moral lesson, political jabs to the government, and anything else you could ever think about or understand. The content is diverse, ranging from corruption in the catholic church, to the misjudgment of the war overseas.
But aside from government and political attacks, Aesop makes you think about how the human species works as a whole, and “Fast cars, Danger, Fire, and Knives” really demonstrates his talent and lyrical genius. The best track on this album is definitely Zodiaccupunture. The metaphors and similes are on point and the overall message of the song seems coded.  But if you listen closely you can kind of decipher it. Another one of the best joints on here is the albums namesake. His flow in that song is probably the best I’ve ever heard out of Aesop Rock. This is one of the first albums I ever bought and definitely one of the best. If you have time to purchase this off Itunes, or download it even, it is definitely worth the time and money.
